Sail Aruba Foundation to deliver the Sail Aruba 2015 event at the Port of Oranjestad in May 2015

On November 30th, 2013 His Majesty King Willem-Alexander officially announced the beginning of the commemoration of the 200 year existence of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Various festivities and celebrations are scheduled to take place until October 2015 throughout the entire kingdom.

His Excellency Fredis Refunjol, Governor of Aruba, is responsible for the coordination of these activities throughout the island. For this reason he has installed a committee to carry out his mandate, announced in January of this year. The Committee “Viering 200 jaar Koninkrijk Aruba” has begun putting together the program for the Sail Aruba 2015 celebrations.

The largest event planned around the festivities is scheduled to be held May 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2015 at the Port of Oranjestad. The event which is planned around the annual Open House day of the Dutch Marine Corps is to be held in and around the Port of Oranjestad. The activities will be open to the public and will encompass all the APA properties such as the Harbor Arena and the surrounding waters which fall under port jurisdiction, for example the Schoener Haven. In addition, the committee has the support of the Caribbean Sail Training Association and Sail Amsterdam, enabling the public to enjoy tours onboard numerous visiting Tallships.

During the aforementioned weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy a Seafood Festival, Sail in Cinema at the Schoener Haven, the Sail Aruba Races organized by the Aruba Sailing Association, miniature boat races, walking tour in Oranjestad, live music, food tents and refreshment, a BBQ Cook Off and to top it all off a final night of international music.
